97 Sylvan Way
Conception

The conception of this project lies between the dream of a working studio and the qualities of land, air, and light inherent in the 25 acres of Maine woods. Located just off Somes Sound, the site maintains an extreme range of conditions, edges, and habitats unique to such a small, coastal parcel. It is within this setting of space, light, and diversity that the collaborative efforts of a wide range of people can be fed.

The studio becomes a principal activity residence for a family of four along with their work, rituals, and customs. A large part of this work is the consortium of rare individuals meeting for varied lengths of time to broaden their circles of living and to provide depth to their efforts and joys.
